Children under 18 years of age are welcome to visit and learn about the space, and take classes, but we do not have any activities specifically geared toward children.
Children who wish to use potentially dangerous equipment such as mills or saws are expected to have first visited with a parent, receive safety instruction, and to provide a liability release form signed by a parent.
However, all visits and use of equipment by children is subject to the supervision of a member and may be refused at any time.
Hack Manhattan is an “adult” environment. We mean that not in the sense that anything explicit goes on (though it may), but everyone is expected to know what they are doing and understand the risks. Members and visitors are often experimenting with new and unfamiliar equipment and techniques, for which we may not have a full understanding of correct safety procedures. Which means a healthy dose of common sense and good judgment is required at all times. Children at Hack Manhattan should be mature enough to handle such an environment.
